Notre Dame went 12-0 which qualified them to participate in the game while Alabama beat Georgia over the weekend to become the SEC Champion and was voted above everyone else as ND's opponent. These two teams have history dating back to 1973 when Alabama's great coach Bear Bryant lost to the Irish for the first of four times in his coaching career. This should shape up to be a great game with both schools having great defenses and offenses capable of scoring in a variety of ways.

The fate of the ship is clear, its reactors will be removed along with any other equipment then she will be sent to Washington state and scrapped. A sad fate for such a storied ship that was commissioned in 1961 and saw action during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam War and multiple conflicts in the Middle East.
