The IIHS has developed a new test that it hopes will convince automakers to improve on certain areas of safety. The new test is a frontal crash test that has the impact in a small side area of the vehicle. Today, there are over 10,000 deaths from frontal crashes and 1/4 of them are happen when a small section of the front of a vehicle is hit. Typically the vehicle is hit and then begins to spin which effects the airbags and their ability to protect occupants. This is a problem that automaker will now address because of the tougher testing.
