British Petroleum will pay a record criminal fine because of the 2010 oil spill in the gulf, the record is $1.3 billion by Pfizer. The funny thing is that the fine will not resolve any civil lawsuits brought against them or any lawsuit brought against them by the U.S. Federal government for environmental damage in the Gulf of Mexico. BP has already reached settlement with lawyers representing the private sector victims They stand to pay $7.8 billion in that agreement.
The operating company of the oil rig platform, Transocean, is also expected to be paying large sums of money because of its part in the disaster.
