Lets face it, illegal immigrants are here in our borders. Most of the jobs they are doing the average American would not want to do because of poor benefits and pay. When they get payed part of their paycheck is going into a Social Security system they will never get the chance to draw out of. They are an integral part of our economy whether we like it or not. They are similar to most Americans in that they want to provide fro their families and risking their lives to do so is the lengths to which they will go to give their families a better life.
More After The Break
More After The Break
There is no denying the fact that they came here illegally and broke our nations laws. But we must acknowledge that our immigration system is broken and needs reform. We need more immigration to bring new ideas into this country and for people to fill jobs that either Americans are not qualified for or do not want. We need more people to fill the houses we have built to help the depressed housing market. We need more people paying taxes and paying into Social Security to keep it afloat. I do not look at illegal immigrants as bad people, stealing jobs from Americans. I view them as an opportunity to help our country and fill a void that we have in our economy.
California is trying to tackle their immigration problem with an appropriate response. First, we need to document all illegals in this country. Just like what we do to any normal American citizen, we need to make sure these people are healthy, safe and accounted for. Second, they need to be put on a path to of full citizenship. They came here illegally so there needs to be a properly measured punishment for breaking our sovereign laws. Maybe that means they are not allowed to receive government benefits or part of their paycheck is taken by the government. They must be schooled just like any other immigrant would be in our nations customs and laws. Finally, we must accept them like we always have. Remember almost all of our families immigrated to this country in search of a better life. Illegal immigrants are people to and should be respected as such. Once they become citizens they should be treated as such and they should act as Americans would. They should not disrespect our nation, but we must be open to their cultures because America is a melting pot of cultures, ethnicity's and ideas. In this debate on how to deal with the millions of illegal immigrants in this country, we must remember they are humans just like us and should be treated the way we want to be treated.
