A combination of things have led to the Great Lakes reaching record low water levels. A lack of significant snow fall the past two years and low rain fall this spring and summer means that those relying on the Great Lakes for shipping, fishing and other industries maybe in trouble. With lower water levels comes an increase in dangers such as sand bars and rocks that make navigating the lakes and waterways more treacherous than usual. So what can be done? Well not much other than hoping for precipitation and working with what is available. Over land transportation will increase and could become more expensive.
