In a wonderful ceremony, the first ever nuclear powered aircraft carrier was retired from active duty on Saturday. The fate of the ship is clear, its reactors will be removed along with any other equipment then she will be sent to Washington state and scrapped. A sad fate for such a storied ship that was commissioned in 1961 and saw action during the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam War and multiple conflicts in the Middle East.
